It's supposed to be hot in August, and it is. Fortunately, the Cottage uses a ground source heat pump, so our guests can stay cool and comfortable and still use the Ultrabath and fireplace when it's 90 outside. I'll mow the trails again this week now that the brush hog is fixed.
The big activity in this area in August is the Missouri State Fair
, Aug. 9-19. We're pretty much full during that time, but we encourage folks to visit the Fair anyway. The website is www.mostatefair.com
. Then, classes start at the University of Central Missouri
(UCM, formerly CMSU). If you're bringing your kids to college, why not take a day off for yourselves? Looking down the road, the only football dates taken are those of UCM Homecoming, so there's another opportunity.
The inch of rain we got last Tuesday was badly needed. The warm season tallgrass plantings along the lane to the Cottage are doing very well. A wild turkey hen and her brood have been using it regularly. We eventually hope that the grasses will spread and give us a real prairie patch.
